Daniel is the newest addition to the Open Media Foundation team. As Community Technology Administrator, he will be supporting and maintaining the technology that we've built DOM on, so that community members are always able to have access to the tools they need to get their message out.

To maintain DOM's IT infrastructure, Daniel will primarily work with the labs and computer hardware that OMF staff and the community use to offer media education, edit and ingest community video footage and to share videos online for watching and voting.

Maintaining and supporting the community technology at DOM is an important job.  In Daniel's own words, "There is a lot of media being delivered to the masses but it is done so with an agenda and by those who possess a lot of resources. The idea of putting resources in the hands of those who have limited access to media (due to our societies' inequalities) is a very democratic act of freedom."

Join us this Friday, February 3rd, for an amazing First Friday. We are proud to partner with Cafe Cultura, which has been bringing Denver spoken word, poetry, visual, digital media, and performance artists/activists since 2004. Using an open mic night format, Cafe Cultura showcases the work of Chicana/o, American Indian, Latina/o and other underserved communities while providing a safe space for young artists from throughout the city to speak their truths, build community, and learn about issues affecting our communities.

This month, Cafe Cultura is featuring performances by:
-Alejandro Jimenez
-Hannabah Blue
-Azucar Morena
-Eden
-Molina
-Desirea LaMotte
-Ara Cruz
& special guest performers: Culture Shock Camp (Quese IMC & Shock B) --->Native Hip Hop @ its best

Today, Archive.org will be shutting down for 12 hours, as part of a internet wide protest against the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the PROTECT-IP Act (PIPA), currently under consideration in congress.

The Open Media Foundation urges you to go to AmericanCensorship.org, and connect with your representative.

Here’s how SOPA and PIPA works:

Here’s a visual infographic if you don’t have time to watch the video.

The General Assembly is scheduled to convene on January 11, 2012 and live coverage is provided by the Colorado Channel on Comcast Ch. 165 and online at coloradochannel.net/live-broadcast.

The Colorado Channel website was redesigned by the OMF web department and it features great pictures of the capital building throughout the sitepremium video content was created and added by the OMF video team. This website also offers a video library for additional Colorado Channel recordings and special productions that are managed by the video department at OMF.  The Colorado Channel is a nonprofit organization that provides televised coverage of the Colorado State Senate and House sessions live and the recordings are archived with a software product called Granicus.

This Friday, there's magic in the air and on the movie screen. Also cursing. Get out your wands, ask the sorting hat which house you are in, grab a beer and join us for an unauthorized retelling of JK Rowling's Harry Potter legend through the alternate audio track of Brad Neely's Wizard People, Dear Readers.

Watch the alternative version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone as it has very rarely been seen before, filled with profanity, unsafe for children of any age, and very very weird. Wear your best wizarding attire. Brooms must be checked at the door. No live owls aloud in the screening room.

Doors open at 7:30, Screening starts at 8:00. Not appropriate for children.

After reviewing member use of Denver Open Media for the last few years we have decided to make a slight adjustment to our hours of operation Tuesday-Friday. Our new hours will be Tuesday-Friday 1pm-8:30pm and Saturday will remain at 11am-6pm effective January 3rd, 2012. We hope that this change will be a positive one and will be more convenient to our members.

We have decided to make this adjustment due to the many requests to open earlier and to the fact that there is often very little activity at DOM after 8:30pm. Please also note that class times many not reflect DOM's new hours of operation and may end after DOM closes. Please see the details on our site for each class's hours.

DOM is not an independent entity, but a project supported by the Open Media Foundation, designed to be managed by the community and operates 3 Comcast cable channels in Denver: 56, 57 & 219.  Channel 56 is programmed directly by over 200 community producers, while channel 57 is scheduled by the viewers, with the top-rated programs getting the best time-slots and most repeat airings.

For Christmas, Open Media Foundation and Denver Open Media (DOM) will be closed Friday and Saturday, December 23rd & 24th. OMF will resume normal hours on Monday December 26th and DOM will be open, as well, on Tuesday December 27th.

For New Year's, Denver Open Media (DOM) will be closed Saturday, December 31st
